My Most Important Advice for 2025

Jan 02, 2025

By Julie A. Uebler, Esq.

Since earning my law degree, I have spent decades litigating employment claims: first, in the Philadelphia office of a large national law firm; later, as in-house counsel for a global pharmaceutical company; and, finally, representing individuals, which I have done for over two decades. While the employment issues I have navigated over time have varied, there is one thing I have seen consistently that can make or break an employment case: waiting too long to take action.

If you are facing a crisis at work but still in the stage where you are wondering if you actually have a case against your employer, I strongly recommend that you reach out to an employment attorney for a consultation about your situation as soon as possible. Strict deadlines apply to all employment claims, and if you wait to find out about what your legal rights and options are, you may miss a filing deadline and lose your access to justice.

For example:

  • If you have been put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) and you think your employer is trying to get rid of you because of your race, gender, age, or other protected characteristic, call a lawyer now. Don’t wait until you have been fired.
  • If you have been subjected to sexual or other prohibited types of harassment in the workplace, call a lawyer now. Don’t wait until you are on the verge of quitting (or have already quit).
  • If you have been fired and believe it was for an illegal reason, call a lawyer now. Don’t wait until you have exhausted your savings.

Calling an attorney sooner than later will help you understand your rights and responsibilities, know what is helpful to do or document during the process, and be reassured that you are prepared to take legal action if it becomes necessary.

Bottom line: If your employer has subjected you to treatment that you think may be illegal, don’t wait to reach out to an experienced employment attorney.

Your employer has legal support. Shouldn’t you?
